تفاوت بین GBIC و SFP در چیست ؟
برای اینکه بتوانیم ارتباط مادربورد را با رسانه ای مثل فیبر نوری برقرار کنیم شما به Connector هایی مانند GBIC یا SFP نیاز دارید. GBIC مخفف کلمات Gigabit Interface Converter است و بیشتر در دهه ۱۹۹۰ مورد استفاده و معمول بوده است. در واقع این Connector به عنوان یک استاندارد برای برقراری ارتباطات بین رسانه هایی مثل کابل های مسی و فیبرهای نوری مورد استفاده قرار می گرفت. در مقابل SFP مخفف کلمات Small Form-Factor Pluggable است که تقریبا همان هدفی را دنبال می کند که GBIC به دنبال آن است. اما مهمترین تفاوتی که بین GBIC و SFP وجود دارد در انداره این Connector ها است ، ماژول های SFP واقعا کوچکتر از ماژول های GBIC هستند.

تفاوت در اندازه ها برای بسیاری از افراد اولویت زیادی دارد ، مخصوصا برای افرادی که همه روزه کارهای زیادی را باید با آنها انجام دهند و مهمترین دلیل در استفاده از SFP به جای GBIC اشغال فضای کمتر و طبیعتا زیبایی بیشتر در کار است ، طبیعی است که در تعداد زیاد و محیط های بسیار بزرگ حتی کوچکترین فضای اشغالی نیز به چشم می آید. معمولا فضایی که در اتاق های سرور وجود دارد محدود است ، استفاده از SFP به جای GBIC باعث می شود شما در رک های خود بتوانید تجهیزات دیگری را نیز بکار ببرید. به خاطر وجود همین تفاوت SFP به سرعت جایگزین GBIC شد و دلیل آن هم استقبال مدیران شبکه از کوچک بودن این ابزار و طبیعتا فضای کمتر اشغالی آن بود. همانطور که SFP محبوب تر می شد GBICمحبوبیت خود را کم کم از دست داد. امروزه استفاده از GBIC تقریبا منسوخ شده است و شما به ندرت سازنده تجهیزات شبکه ای را ببینید که در تجهیزاتش امکان استفاده از GBIC را همچنان دیده باشد. SFP امروزه تقریبا روی تمامی دستگاه های سویچ و روتر شبکه ای که به این قابلیت نیاز داشته باشند وجود دارد اما تکنولوژی ها همه روزه تغییر می کنند و طبیعتا SFP هم در حال جایگزین شدن با تکنولوژی های جدیدتر است ، امروزه SFP+ در حال جایگزین شدن به جای SFP است.

اگر به دنبال این هستید که بدانید کدامیک از این دو دارای کارایی بهتری در عمل هستند زیاد به خود زحمت ندهید چون تفاوت چندانی در خصوص کارایی آنها وجود ندارد و معمولا از این جهت مقایسه ای انجام نمی شود. ویژگی های هم GBIC و هم SFP از نظر عملکرد الکتریکی و یا ارتباط با فیبر نوری تقریبا مشابه است. بنابراین عوض کردن تجهیزات و Switch کردن بین SFP یا GBIC تفاوت چندانی برای شما در کارایی شبکه به وجود نخواهد آورد و نه شبکه شما بهتر خواهد شد و نه بدتر ، بنابراین اگر شما قصد ایجاد کردن یک زیرساخت شبکه جدید را دارید و نمی خواهید از تجهیزات قدیمی شبکه استفاده کنید ، بهتر است به جای استفاده از تجهیزاتی که از GBIC پشتیبانی می کنند ، از تجهیزاتی استفاده کنید که از ماژول های SFP یا SFP+ پشتیبانی می کنند. همیشه به این موضوع فکر کنید که درست است که تجهیزاتی که از GBIC استفاده می کنند در حال حاضر ارزانتر هستند اما در مدت زمان طولانی در صورتیکه این تجهیزات به مشکل بخورند برای تهیه کردن یک GBICقدیمی هزینه های بیشتری باید پرداخت شود از طرفی ممکن است اصلا جایگزینی برای آنها پیدا نشود.
